Whether you recently installed new hardwood floors or you moved into a home with wood flooring, you’ll want to keep it looking good for years to come. We at Integrated Flooring Solutions specialize in hardwood-flooring installation and refinishing, so let us give you a few tips for proper wood-floor maintenance.

1. Keep your wood floors clean.

Daily, use a soft-bristle broom or a dust mop to get rid of the dirt, dust, pet hair, or other particles that can build up. Wipe up spills with a soft cloth, and when necessary, use a cleaning agent specifically formulated for hardwood flooring. (If you need suggestions for a specific brand, you can contact us.)

2. Position rugs where dirt tends to collect.

You can prevent dirt and other contaminates from spreading throughout your home by strategically placing throw rugs. We recommend you have rugs near exterior doors, in well-traveled areas, as well as in the food-prep area of your kitchen. Better you catch dirt in a rug before it has a chance to work its way into your wood flooring.

3. Think soft.

While hardwood flooring is durable, a blunt object can cause considerable damage. You may want to consider a no-shoes policy (or at least a no high-heels policy). Additionally, make sure to keep objects or toys that could scratch off the hardwood floors. You will also want to invest in “soft feet” or felt pads for the bottom of your furniture.
